Nairobi’s hospitality scene has welcomed a new addition with the launch of The Chaii Republic, a café concept inspired by India’s tea and coffee traditions, now introduced to the Kenyan capital.

The brand, which has gained popularity in India for its modern take on traditional beverages, officially opened its Nairobi outlet on Saturday at Social8 Restaurant in Westlands.

Located along Brookside Drive, The Chaii Republic now operates within Social8’s multi-use space, offering a dedicated area for tea and coffee enthusiasts. The café serves a variety of brews, including spiced kulhad chai, oat milk matcha, and artisanal coffee blends.

“It was encouraging to see Nairobians respond so positively on launch day,” said Ashish Sharma, CEO of Thrive Hospitality, the brand behind The Chaii Republic. “A good cup of chai or coffee resonates across cultures, and we’re pleased to bring an authentic and creative version of that experience to Nairobi.”

The launch event attracted a diverse audience, including creatives, hospitality professionals, and media figures. Attendees sampled the café’s curated menu, featuring Indian-inspired flavors served in traditional clay cups (kulhads), along with light snacks that reflected both Indian and Kenyan culinary influences.

“Kenya is internationally known for its coffee. What we’re doing is creating a space where that excellence meets the global chai tradition,” Sharma said. “We want to offer a place where people can slow down, connect, and enjoy distinctive flavors.”

The Nairobi outlet marks The Chaii Republic’s first step into the East African market, with plans for regional expansion already in discussion. Sharma noted that Nairobi’s growing interest in specialty cafés and cross-cultural experiences made it a strategic choice for the brand’s African debut.

Social8, known for its emphasis on creative dining and cultural engagement, now adds another element to its offering through this collaboration.

The partnership between the two brands was evident during the launch, where guests mingled in a space that balanced international influence with local character.

“We’re not just serving beverages—we’re fostering a community,” Sharma added.
