TH3 Swish cruise past UON Dynamites to strengthen playoff push

TH3 Swish produced a commanding display to hammer UON Dynamites 64-35 in a Kenya National Women's Basketball Premier League match played at USIU Grounds on Saturday.

The self-sponsored side took control of the contest from the opening whistle, taking the opening quarter 17-12 before edging the second period 12-14 to carry a 29-26 lead into the halftime break.

Swish returned from the interval with renewed intensity, tightening their defence and restricting Dynamites to just four points in the third quarter while scoring seven to extend their advantage to 36-30.

The visitors then completely took over the final quarter, outscoring the students 31-2 in a ruthless display to put the game beyond reach. Their aggressive defense forced several turnovers while quick transitions and efficient shooting ensured they sealed an emphatic 64-35 victory.

TH3 Swish head coach Ariel Okal credited his team's improved second-half display for the convincing win.

"We were technically in the game in the first half, but we came back much stronger after the break. We created several attacking opportunities early on as we looked to establish our rhythm. In the second half, the girls came out blazing. 

They defended well by stopping the opponents' transition game, contested every shot, and were very intentional with their passing and execution. They were ruthless, and that made the difference," said Okal.

On his part UON Dynamites assistant coach Malcom Ajulu blamed his side's lapse in concentration after a bright start.

"We started well and matched them in the early stages, but we lost concentration. They capitalized on our mistakes, took control of the game, and deserved the victory," said Ajulu.

The convincing victory saw TH3 Swish move to 28 points from 17 matches after registering 11 wins and six losses, boosting their playoff ambitions.

For UON Dynamites, the defeat leaves them eighth on the standings with 23 points from 17 matches, having won six and lost 11 as they seek to bounce back in their remaining fixtures.
