Tessie Mudavadi, the Spouse to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, has called on women to form and join groups so as to be able to gain financial empowerment from the Women Enterprise Fund.

Speaking in Rumuruti town in Laikipia County during the launch of Baraka Women’s Centre on Saturday, Tessie highlighted the need to explore opportunities to empower women and the youth to prevent anti-social behavior such as drug and substance abuse.

"Let us all take advantage of these funds. The government has made it available for such vulnerable people to utilise these funds to empower themselves," she said.

Tessie noted that it is also important to empower young men equally as ladies so that they do not get into alcoholism and drug use due to lack of jobs.

"Equally, we should also empower our young men who have now turned into alcohol and drug abuse. Such funds have been made available for the youths and women to use them. This way, issues of alcohol will come to an end," she noted.

Laikipia First Lady Grace Irungu, on her part, said they would want the government to continue supporting the county’s women's groups.

“When it comes to women empowerment, we are serving women, I don't care which part you are…I don't care what tribe you are…as long as there is the need of women, we will work together," she stated.
