The Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) has
intensified its clean sport campaign ahead of the 2026 African Senior
Championships in Accra, Ghana, with 67 Team Kenya athletes undergoing an
anti-doping education session on Friday.
The African Senior Championships will be held from
May 12-17, 2026 in Accra, Ghana, where Kenya will once again be targeting top
honours against Africa’s finest athletes.
Top on the agenda was Athlete Whereabouts, a key
requirement under the World Anti-Doping Code aimed at protecting clean sport
and preventing Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs).
ADAK officials cautioned athletes against failing to
update their whereabouts information, warning that several sanctions in recent
years have resulted from missed tests and filing failures.
“It is very important to ensure your whereabouts
details are accurate and up to date because this is one area that has caused
sanctions for many athletes,” an ADAK official told the athletes during the
session.
The athletes were taken through the process of
filing and updating whereabouts information, the importance of being available
for out-of-competition testing and the consequences of non-compliance.
The education programme also focused on athlete
responsibility, compliance procedures and the importance of making informed
decisions to safeguard careers.
The session comes as Kenya continues to strengthen
its fight against doping and protect the country’s reputation in global
athletics.
Recent reforms and expanded anti-doping programmes
have seen Kenya make significant progress, including removal from the World
Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) compliance watchlist earlier this year.
Among the athletes who attended the session were national hammer throw champion Roseline Rakamba, national shot put record holder Belinda Oburu, veteran sprinter Milicent Ndoro and Kenyan javelin thrower Alexander Kiprotich.
