Team Kenya has returned home to a triumphant reception following a stellar performance at the CAA African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana. With the continental showcase concluded, the squad is immediately shifting gears to preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Kenya secured an impressive haul of 17 medals including five gold, five silver, and  seven bronze to finish second behind South Africa in the overall medal standings.


The team’s assistant manager, Lt Col. Albert Lagat, predicted a bright future for the nation's athletics, noting that the roster was intentionally built around emerging talent.

"We took a very young team to Ghana, and they did phenomenally well to finish second behind South Africa," Lagat said. "This performance underscores the incredible depth we possess as a country. The dedication to discovering and nurturing world-class talent is burning brighter than ever."

Standout Performances

Kenya’s dominance was on display not just in its traditional distance strongholds, but also across various field events.

In the women’s shot put, national record holder Belinda Adhiambo Oburu clinched a historic bronze medal in her senior international debut. She credited her success to rigorous early preparation and unwavering self-belief.

"Representing Kenya for the first time and coming back from Accra with a bronze medal is a massive achievement," Oburu shared. "I finally feel like I belong among the elite. My focus now shifts immediately to the KDF Championships and Commonwealth Games trials. Competing in Commonwealth Games there is my ultimate dream this year."

Kelvin Loti said team overcame logistical hurdles and self believe enable him to claim gold in the men's 800m.

"We faced significant logistical challenges in Ghana, but our resilience carried us through," Loti remarked. "I am incredibly happy with my progression in the 800m, and this is a strong indicator of even bigger results on the horizon.
