Uncertainty is looming over the national examination marking as the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) threatens to withdraw its members over what it terms poor remuneration.

According to National Vice Chairman Julius Korir, teachers are now demanding better pay for teachers, warning that failure to address the matter could disrupt the marking process.

The union says teachers involved in the national examination marking exercise are always dissatisfied with the payments offered, arguing that the compensation does not reflect the amount of work, time and commitment required during the exercise.

KUPPET officials have called on the government, through the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), to review the marking allowances and improve teachers' working conditions.

Mary Rotich, the national assistant treasurer, warned that failure to address the concerns could disrupt the examination marking process, potentially delaying the release of results.
