A 33-year-old woman on Saturday gave birth to three healthy triplets at the Kirinyaga treatment centre in Kagio, Kirinyaga County.

Mrs. Magdalene Muthoni, a teacher at the Kiaga primary school in Kirinyaga central, said she was expecting twins all along.

According to Muthoni, earlier scans showed she was carrying twins.

“I was shocked when I learned that a third one was coming. I am very happy and I thank the hospital staff for helping me to deliver safely. Most of all I thank God,” said Muthoni who already has an eight-year-old boy.

“This is my second delivery. I thank God for this gift,” she said.

Kirinyaga treatment centre management led by the Director Margaret Gaku said all the three children had been delivered safely.

“The mother gave birth to three baby girls. Out team has currently put the mother and the children under observation, but they are doing well,” said Gaku.

According to the hospital, Muthoni 's triplets are healthy with scales of 2.7 kg 1.7 kg and 2.4 kg respectively.

The mother is pleading for assistance from well-wishers to help her care for the babies.
