The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that officers trailed three suspects to Olakira, where they caught them breaking into a local pub and packing assorted alcoholic drinks.
On spotting the police, the trio is said to have abandoned their loot, hopped onto a standby getaway motorcycle, and sped off.
"Determined to bring the suspects to book, the officers gave chase, cornering the thugs at Olkilorit area. Defying orders to surrender, the desperate criminals opened fire on the police, triggering a fierce shootout," DCI said on Sunday.
Two suspects were fatally injured as the other managed to escape with gunshot wounds.
At the scene, the officers recovered an AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with two rounds of ammunition suspected to have been used in a wave of murders and violent robberies.
Likewise, two Maasai swords, a claw hammer, a Red Boxer Motorcycle, assorted alcoholic beverages were also recovered alongside other items.
The bodies of the susoects were moved to the Transmara West Sub-County Hospital Level 4 Mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the recovered items have been secured as exhibits.
Meanwhile, officers are pursuing crucial leads to trail the injured suspect who remains at large.
