Walter Kipkoech, the suspect behind the killing of 18-year-old Joy Wangui in Kiambaa area in Molo, has been arrested at a hideout in Lagwenda village, Kuresoi North, Nakuru County.

Kipkoech, 23, was on the run after killing the Form Four student at Molo Secondary School, whose lifeless body was discovered inside her home in Kiambaa area.

Her brother, who had briefly left home for a nearby shop, returned to find her body lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen and her head severed from her body.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that responding detectives found the murder weapon, an axe, a panga and two knives, all bearing bloodstains, near the body.

"The deceased’s head was later discovered in the corridor, where a message had allegedly been scrawled on the wall using blood: “I love you Joy but never cheat, am sorry.”," DCI added.

In a report on Tuesday, DCI noted that Kipkoech was apprehended after a joint manhunt and smoked out of his hideout.

At the time of arrest, Kipkoech was wearing a blood-stained boxer, a white T-shirt bearing Wangui’s name at the hem, and black jeans with dry blood stains.

Preliminary investigations established that Kipkoech was Wangui's boyfriend, as detectives believe a relationship dispute was the motive for the killing.

He has been taken to Molo Police Station, where he is undergoing processing pending arraignment.

The investigative branch has condoled with the family, vowing to ensure justice is served and the suspect faces the full wrath of the law.
