Suspect arrested while transporting narcotic drugs in a PSV

Police officers in Busia County have arrested a 39-year-old public service vehicle (PSV) driver over alleged trafficking of cannabis sativa.

Stephen Otieno Jumbo alias Barry was arrested after officers from Bumala Police Station, following a tip-off, intercepted the vehicle along the Busia–Kisumu Road.

A subsequent search of the vehicle’s boot led to the recovery of a green sack and a black bag containing the narcotic drugs weighing a total of 20 kilograms.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), further investigations by detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB), Busia, established that the consignment was not a passenger’s luggage. 

They established that the driver was involved in the trafficking operation and arrested him, and investigations revealed that he was allegedly acting jointly with the vehicle’s conductor, Patrick Omondi, who fled the scene during the arrests. 

The driver is now in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment, as detectives continue the search for the conductor.
