According to area Nyumba Kumi chairman John Kidula, victims were travelling on a motorcycle when they were hit by a high-speeding truck.
Kidula said a student of St. Anthony Boys School, Kitale, who was heading back to school was among the fatalities.
“We will not condone with the situation if our people keep dying in such manner. We will not agree if parents pay school fees and the students end up dying in such a horrific manner. I condole with the families of the dead,” Kidula said, adding that the accident would have been prevented if the road had bumps to control the speed of vehicles.
He further the ministry of Roads, Transport and Public Works to extend the road and work on the bumps to avoid future accidents.
“We appeal to the government to intervene and work on this road. This road is very narrow unable to accommodate large number of vehicles.”
“The Cabinet Secretary for Roads Kipchumba Murkomen is very conversant with the situation of this road. We request that this road be extended and re-worked on to enhance safety,” he appealed.
