Nairobi witnessed an unprecedented fan frenzy on Sunday as American internet personality and streamer Darren Jason Watkins Jr., popularly known as IShowSpeed, captivated the city during a six-hour visit that streamed live to over 48 million viewers at its peak.

The event also earned him more than 360,000 new subscribers in real-time.

The 20-year-old entertainer, currently on a tour of Africa, required a police escort and a security detail as throngs of fans flocked to see him.

His itinerary in Nairobi was packed with diverse activities, reflecting both his playful personality and interest in Kenyan culture.

At Upper Hill School, IShowSpeed joined Olympic javelin champion Julius Yego for a throwing session and later participated in a rugby match with the school team.

He also tried his hand at preparing traditional Kenyan dishes, including ugali and chapati.

The streamer further explored Nairobi’s landmarks, visiting Nairobi National Park and Uhuru Park, where he rode a camel before being chauffeured by rally driver Ishmael Azeli to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

The day culminated in a scenic helicopter tour over the city.

IShowSpeed received warm receptions throughout his visit, including at Kenyatta Market, where he enjoyed nyama choma and was presented with portraits by local artists.

While he has previously toured Angola, South Africa, and Zambia, his visit to Kenya has so far drawn the largest attention across the continent.
