Strathmore Blades eye KNBL top-four push despite injury setbacks

The students head into the encounter sitting fifth in the standings with 24 points from 16 matches, having registered eight wins and eight losses. Stanbic Shields are just one point behind in sixth place with 23 points, having won eight and lost seven of their 15 matches.

Ochieng expects a tough contest against a Stanbic side known for its high-intensity defensive pressure.

"They run a lot and apply relentless pressure. Most of the points they score come off turnovers. For us, the focus has been on breaking their press, taking care of the ball, and finding easy scoring opportunities without getting caught by the shot clock. If we execute that well, we'll put ourselves in a good position to compete."

Despite expressing confidence in his team's preparations, Ochieng admitted they have had to contend with a few challenges ahead of the crucial fixture.

"We are well prepared, although we've had a few minor setbacks. One of the biggest challenges is that we're currently in the middle of exams, which has affected training attendance and consistency.

On top of that, two of our key players, David Baraka and Dan Mbugua , who have been our top scorers, picked up injuries that could keep them out for about three weeks. Despite those challenges, we're focused on making the best of the players available and staying competitive."

A victory on Sunday would strengthen Strathmore's push for a top-four finish, something Ochieng says reflects the team's steady improvement this season.

"I'm delighted that the two points will lift us into fourth place in the standings. It will be a reward for the hard work the boys are putting in. I'm pleased with the progress we've made so far, and we'll keep working hard to maintain this momentum and continue achieving positive results."
