Strathmore Blades head coach Tony Ochieng has praised his
team after a flawless weekend in the National Men’s Basketball Premier League,
where they picked up two key wins to strengthen their top-four ambitions.
The varsity side opened with a 64-47 win over Africa
Nazarene University Wolfpacks before edging Ulinzi Warriors 62-55 in matches
played at Nyayo Gymnasium.
Ochieng said the players showed character and determination
in tough fixtures, crediting improvements in rebounding, scoring and overall
coordination.
“The boys rose to the occasion, taking on tough games and
emerging with maximum points. They wanted it more and showed great character,”
he said.
He also highlighted defensive discipline and better
transition control, noting that improved ball movement and teamwork made the
difference in both matches.
Ochieng also praised his team’s resilience against tough
opposition, saying the consecutive wins have strengthened their push for a
top-four finish in the first leg.
“We swept our opponents who came hard at us. The boys kept
pushing and I would say those were good wins. I must commend them because this
has really boosted our chances of a top-four finish in the first leg,” he
added.
The results move Blades to four wins and three losses from seven games, with 11 points, as they continue their push up the standings.
