Harambee Starlets captain Wendy Achieng has said that the team is contented with the level of preparations ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) first leg qualifier against Equatorial Guinea.

The David Ouma coached side play hosts to the West Africans in the first installment of the two-leg clash before heading to Malabo for the rematch on Saturday.

The stakes are high with the aggregate winner proceeding to the 2018 AWFCON finals in Accra, Ghana from November 17- December 1, and Achieng maintains that the team spirit in camp is high.

“Our preparations have been good. We have worked on every aspect of our game. The team is in good shape and morale is high; every player understands the significance of this game and is giving their best,” Achieng said adding that, “We know that this is the only chance to qualify and we want to win.”

Though Achieng is aware of the quality within the opposition , she says they’ll be counting on home advantage to win the game.

“Equatorial Guinea is a good team. They have their own history in women’s football but this is a competition. We have to play against the best to qualify. We (starlets) are playing at home and winning is our key focus and the most important thing for us,” the soft-spoken skipper added.

Meanwhile, the West Africans who landed on Sunday have pitched camp in Machakos and are expected to have feel of the pitch on Tuesday afternoon.

FKF Communications Manager Barry Otieno has in the meantime said that the federation will accord the guests all the necessary support.

“The federation has received the team well. We purpose to provide the best services for any team coming into the country and assure them of quality hospitality with security, logistics and training facilities all taken care of,” said Barry.
