Stanbic Aces head coach Maurice Obilo says his players executed the game plan to perfection as they romped to a convincing 57-42 victory over his former club, Zetech Sparks, in a National Women's Basketball Premier League match at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi.

The victory lifted the Bankers to the top of the league standings with 28 points from 15 matches, having won 13 games and lost only two.

Obilo admitted his side made a slow start but was pleased with how they recovered in the second quarter to take control of the contest.

"The game was good. We started on a slow start, but in the second quarter we picked up and played very well. We actually executed everything that we wanted to," said Obilo.

He added that his players are increasingly adapting to the team's playing philosophy.

"I'm just happy that they are picking up and getting the system right. They're starting to enjoy playing within the system. Slowly, one step at a time. I believe we're going to do better in the coming games," he added.

Facing a side he once coached, Obilo acknowledged the challenge Zetech posed and credited his players for carrying out a defensive strategy that neutralised their biggest weapon.

"This is not an easy team to play. Coming into the game, we knew the result could go either way. But we came with our heads up and a good plan to stop their hands and take away their three-point shooting, which is their strength. I'm happy that we didn't stop everything, but we slowed their offense down," he said.

The experienced tactician believes the result will give his squad added confidence as they continue their push for the league title.

"It's a good boost for my team. That win was very big for them, so we build from that," he said.

Despite the defeat, Zetech Sparks remain in the middle of the standings with 21 points from 15 matches, having registered six wins and nine losses this season.
