Stanbic Aces
head coach Maurice Obilo says his side faced a difficult challenge despite
securing victory in their weekend National Women’s Basketball Premier League
clash.
The bankers
defeated Strathmore Swords 56-48 at USIU Grounds to continue their impressive
run in the league this season.
"It was a
very tough match, very tough to be honest. We also had challenges in
preparation because last week we were unable to train properly due to heavy
rains. We only managed a one hour to shoot around on Friday because we had lot
of rain during the week which affected our preparations.
He went on: “We
struggled with our shooting, from free throws to three-pointers, but we kept
pushing ourselves and managed to get the win. It was not the best performance
we could give, but we will continue working hard as we prepare for the upcoming
matches," said Obilo.
Despite the
victory, the tactician acknowledged that his team did not produce their best
display but praised his players for grinding out the result under difficult
circumstances.
The win extended
Stanbic’s strong run in the National Women’s Basketball Premier League; the
side now has 17 points from nine matches after recording eight wins and one
defeat, with two matches left before the end of the first leg.
Defending
champions Kenya Ports Authority remain at the summit of the standings with 18
points after maintaining a perfect run, winning all nine of their matches so
far this season.
