Sports Principal Secretary (PS) Elijah Mwangi has promised that ongoing construction and renovation of sports facilities across the country will be completed within the next nine months.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday show, Mwangi said the national and county governments are working together to ensure contractors deliver the projects on time.
“I am confident that the projects will be ready in the next nine months. We are working in collaboration with the county government to ensure that they are delivered in good time for use,” said Mwangi.
The PS also confirmed that the government is working closely with CAF officials to ensure Kenya is ready to co-host next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
“We held a meeting with inspectors from CAF and they gave us recommendations on what needs to improve when it comes to the facilities that will be used, and we are working to make sure everything is ripe for the tournament,” added Mwangi.
Mwangi said the government is also working with sports federations to ensure new facilities meet the required standards and are suited to the sporting strengths of different regions.
“The government is working closely with the federations to make sure that the facilities meet the required standards for use. FKF and Athletics can be some of the federations we are working closely with,” stated the PS.
