Detectives have arrested a suspect accused of killing his 60-year-old mother in Nyandarua County.

The arrest followed a multi-agency investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The victim, identified as Millicent Wahura Mwangi, was reported missing from Mwireri village in Olkalou, Nyandarua Central Sub-County. Initial inquiries raised suspicions, prompting police to widen their search.

Three days later, officers from Kipipiri Police Station were alerted to the discovery of a woman’s torso in a sack along the Malewa–Kipipiri road, approximately 37 kilometres from Olkalou.

The remains were taken to JM Kariuki Memorial Funeral Home for preservation and further examination.

Family members later confirmed the torso belonged to the missing woman.

The case was subsequently handed over to the DCI Homicide Investigations Unit, which launched an intensive search for the suspect.

Investigators later tracked Benson Maina Mwangi, the deceased’s second-born son, to Kamulu in Nairobi, where he was arrested.

According to the DCI, the suspect was arraigned at the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court in Olkalou on November 24, 2025, where detectives secured a 21-day custodial order.

He remains in custody pending mention on January 19, 2026.

During the investigation, homicide detectives — assisted by forensic specialists and guided by the suspect — conducted an underwater search that led to the recovery of a machete believed to have been used in the crime, along with bedding and other items allegedly disposed of after the incident.

Authorities say further investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served in the killing of Millicent Wahura Mwangi.
