Police in Busia County have seized over 400 sacks of sugar from Uganda valued at around Ksh.2 million.

According to Busia County Police Commander Maxwell Nyaema, the sugar was found at the home of a Nasira village resident in Nambale on Wednesday night.

“The sugar is in at least four hundred 50kg bags whose value in the Kenyan market is around 2 million shillings,” Nyaema said.

He said that the sugar had been repackaged into Nzoia Sugar company sacks ready for distribution to various regions in the country.

Police recovered sacks of Uganda’s Lugazi Sugar company where the sugar had originally been packaged, as well as a sugar packaging machine.

Although the homeowner escaped after being busted, police caught his daughter and have appealed to residents to volunteer any information about the smugglers.
