Six survivors of the tragic Utumishi Academy accident have been transferred back to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialized medical reviews and treatment.

The survivors, drawn from different parts of the country, continue to grapple with serious injuries sustained in the accident, including fractures, deep wounds and psychological trauma, requiring ongoing medical care and rehabilitation.

The latest intervention through the support of former Nairobi Governor and National Economic Democratic Party (NEDP) leader Mike Sonko comes weeks after the burial of the 16 students who lost their lives in the devastating tragedy that shocked the nation and left families and communities mourning.

Speaking during the transfer of the survivors to KNH, Sonko pledged continued support for the victims and their families, saying they would not be left to face the recovery process alone.

“Today, we are bringing injured survivors back to KNH from different parts of the country for reviews and treatment. Many are still battling broken bones, deep wounds and emotional scars. We will not abandon them. We will stand with them, support them and walk this journey with their families until they heal,” he said.

Sonko noted that although the deceased students had been laid to rest, the impact of the tragedy continued to be felt by survivors and bereaved families.

“The 16 Utumishi Academy students who lost their lives have been laid to rest, but the pain is far from over. To those who criticize or try to discourage us, we pray for you. Our mission remains the same: to serve humanity and help those in need. May God heal the injured and comfort the grieving,” he said.

As families continue to mourn their loved ones, communities across the country are still coming to terms with the loss, while survivors face a long road to physical and emotional recovery. The transfer to KNH is expected to provide the victims with access to specialized treatment as they continue their rehabilitation.
