Six arrested as DCI rescue three Indians in suspected human trafficking case in Ruiru

The three Indian nationals arrived in the country through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on August 5, 2026, but later went missing, prompting intelligence-led investigations by detectives.

The victims were eventually traced to a two-bedroom house in the Fort Jesus area of Ruiru, Kiambu County, where they were allegedly being held incommunicado.

Preliminary investigations indicate that after being cleared at JKIA, the three left the airport in a taxi allegedly arranged by a receiver who was waiting for them in Ruiru. They were then taken to the house where they remained until their rescue.

Those arrested include Indian national Avtar Singh; Pakistani nationals Ali Khashif and Syed Shujaat Hussein; and Kenyan nationals Stephen Karomo and Damaris Katulu Daudi. Detectives also found a Kenyan minor, who was allegedly working as a house help, at the premises.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects told investigators they were facilitating the three Indian nationals' travel to Italy through Ethiopia.

The DCI said investigations are continuing to establish the suspects' activities, identify possible accomplices and determine whether they are linked to a wider human trafficking network.

The six suspects are being processed for arraignment.
