Mbeere residents in Embu County are worried about the drought situation that has hit them hard - families can hardly get drinking water for themselves or for the livestock they are keeping.

Steve Mugendi, a resident in Mbeere explains that they have gone for a very long period of time without seeing rain.

"It's been long since we saw a drop of rain in this part of the world. We are starving. The sun like you can see is scorching. Getting a meal or a glass of water is not easy here,” he noted.

Another resident, Mercy Gitonga, explains that their children are starving and agonised, and the situation is making them lose concentration in school - at worse, they even miss going to school.

"The drought situation is tricky for us now. Our children are looking unto to us for food and water yet we have nothing much we can do. There are no crops in the farms. Going to school is now becoming a big challenge to the young ones.”

Mercy added: "We are humbly appealing to both County and the national government to come to our aid so that we get our footing as we hope for an end of this tough situation."
