Kenya rugby sevens team Shujaa are in the rut after their sluggish run in the HSBC Series continued Saturday at the Singapore Sevens losing 19-26 to heavyweights France and equally falling to 19-21 to USA.
The outcome automatically knocks them out of contention for the main cup slot. They’ll face Uruguay at 1:07 PM [EAT] in their final Group D game.
Against France, at the Singapore National Stadium, Herman Humwa put the Damian McGrath coached side ahead in the second minute. Kevin Wekesa and Anthony Omondi were also on the score sheet for the Kenyans; Omondi converting the two tries, only for Shujaa to be punished in the last minute for their mistakes.
And against the Americans, McGrath’s side was confident but again loss of possession and poor offloading was their undoing as they went down. Nelson Oyoo, George Ooro and Alvin Otieno each grabbed a try as Anthony Omondi stepped up confidently to convert the two tries but it was not enough.
Shujaa are currently placed 13th overall on the series log with 30 points with relegation threats looming large.
