Sifuna to Atwoli: I do not need your Ksh.1 billion campaign money

Speaking during an interview at Mulembe FM on Tuesday, Sifuna said he would rather rely on small contributions from millions of Kenyans than accept a massive donation from a single individual. The Senator argued that such funding creates opportunities for corruption.

"We are a different generation of leaders, and we are going to do politics differently. I don't need your Ksh.1 billion, Atwoli. I would rather be indebted to 10 million Kenyans because they gave me KSh 10 each than to one person who gave me KSh1 billion because that's where corruption begins,” said Sifuna

Sifuna questioned how Atwoli could afford to contribute such a large sum to a political campaign at a time when many Kenyan workers whom he represents are struggling financially.

He argued that if indeed he wants to help and such resources exist, they would be better directed towards improving the welfare of workers rather than financing politics.

The Senator further criticized what he described as the use of development projects as a political reward, saying some leaders create the impression that communities can only receive development if they support the government.

"They use development as a carrot, dangling it before the people and telling them that if they do not support the government, they will not receive development. That is what we want to end in this country," he opined.

Earlier this month, Atwoli claimed that he was the only one who could help raise as much as Ksh.1 billion in one minute. 

He warned Sifuna that personal finances and contributions could not sustain a presidential bid and advised that him and his networks were the one’s capable of offering extensive support.
