Shocking upsets define day one of Driftwood 7s

Kenya Harlequins, Kabras Sugar RFC, KCB, and Strathmore Leos going unbeaten in their respective pools, stamping authority ahead of Sunday’s knockout stages.
Defending champions Kenya Harlequins flexed their muscles in Pool A, brushing aside BlakBlad (14-7), Mwamba (17-0), and MMUST (45-0).
Kabras Sugar, another tournament favorite, dominated Pool B with clean sheets against Nakuru, Impala, and Catholic Monks.
KCB was equally ruthless, putting Daystar, Mombasa, and Nondies to the sword, scoring a combined 107 points while conceding just 14.
Meanwhile, Strathmore Leos proved unstoppable in Pool D, rounding off the day with wins over Stallions, Kabarak University, and Menengai Oilers.
There were surprises too, Mwamba, Impala, Kabarak, and hosts Mombasa failed to register a single win, crashing to the bottom of their respective pools.
Sunday’s quarterfinals will see heavyweights face off in thrilling matchups, with Quins taking on Nakuru and Kabras locking horns with MMUST.
KCB Rugby, unbeaten in Pool C, have been drawn against Menengai Oilers who finished second in Pool D.
In Division II, the action was equally electrifying. AP Warriors, Embu RFC, and Zetech Oaks dominated their pools, each completing the group stages unbeaten.
Embu’s flawless run saw them score 45 points against Kaya without conceding, while Zetech Oaks edged Northern Suburbs 5–0 in a tense finish to top Pool E.
Other notable teams advancing include MKU Thika, Homeboyz RFC, and NYS Spades, who overcame Makueni RFC to maintain a perfect record.
With drama set to intensify on day two, fans can expect thrilling action tomorrow as Kenya’s top rugby sides battle it out for the coveted Driftwood 7s title.
