Dr. Amakove Wala’s journey is anything but conventional. Trained as a doctor, she only practised medicine for six months before making the bold decision to pivot. She moved into the corporate side of the pharmaceutical industry, later leading within a medical association and working in the development sector.

Her career has been defined by reinvention. Now a serial entrepreneur, Dr. Wala builds solutions rooted in real life. When she struggled to find reliable childcare as a working mother, she started a nanny bureau to address the gap many women face.

She has also ventured into unexpected spaces, including launching a fish restaurant; a move that drew criticism from those who couldn’t reconcile her medical background with the business. But for her, entrepreneurship is about solving problems and creating value, not fitting into societal expectations. She has since expanded into the tours and travel business, continuing to diversify her ventures.

Alongside her professional life, she is a mother of four, including triplets, navigating both family and business with intention rather than perfection.

Now, she is looking toward public service, with plans to vie for the Woman Representative seat in her home county of Vihiga. Her goal is to address systemic challenges affecting women, building on years of experience solving problems at both personal and professional levels.
