Shabana FC boosted their top-three ambitions with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in a closely contested league encounter at Gusii Stadium.

Coming into the match, Shabana knew that a win would see them draw level with their opponents in the standings, adding significance to an already high-stakes fixture.

The hosts made a bright and assertive start, nearly taking the lead as early as the fifth minute when Assis Btashi rattled the woodwork, underlining Shabana’s attacking intent. Their early dominance persisted, with Danson Kiprono coming close in the 18th minute, narrowly missing the target as Homeboyz struggled to cope with the pressure.

Shabana’s breakthrough arrived in the 30th minute. Brian Michira delivered a perfectly weighted through ball that split the defence, allowing Btashi to finish calmly and hand the hosts a deserved lead.

The first half ended with Shabana firmly in control, taking a 1-0 advantage into the break while Kakamega Homeboyz faced the challenge of overturning the deficit in the second half.

After the restart, Shabana adopted a more measured approach, focusing on protecting their narrow lead as Homeboyz pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Biron Otieno came close to doubling the advantage just after the hour mark but failed to convert, keeping the visitors within reach.

Despite increased pressure from Homeboyz, Shabana remained resolute at the back. Goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng produced a crucial save late on to preserve both the lead and a clean sheet for the hosts.

The victory sees Shabana climb to fourth place on 46 points.
