The Social Health Authority has announced the temporary suspension of MP Shah Hospital from the panel of contracted healthcare providers, pending the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

In a notice by the SHA Chief Executive Officer, Mercy Mwangangi, the suspension affects critical services under the following Funds: Primary Healthcare Fund, Social Health Insurance Fund, Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund and Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund.

According to Mwangangi, the suspension takes effect from June 23, 2026.

"To ensure a seamless transition and continuity of care, our beneficiaries already admitted at the facility before the suspension date shall continue receiving care till completion of their current episode of care and discharge," the notice read in part.

Patients requiring new admissions, follow-up treatment or any healthcare services were advised to seek care from other SHA-contracted providers.

"Beneficiaries who require assistance with continuity of care or referral may contact the SHA through the toll-free number 147."

Currently, 6,377 hospitals are contracted to provide healthcare services under the SHA.

The suspension comes amid the government's crackdown on fraudulent activities linked to SHA. In April 2026, Health CS Aden Duale announced the closure of 1,000 hospitals over SHA fraud, citing that the probe would continue to ensure all facilities follow the law.
