An unknown number of people sustained serious injuries after houses and farmland were torched on Tuesday following fresh clashes witnessed on the border of Nkaararo and Enoreteet in Trans Mara, Narok County.

This is the latest incident of conflict that has persisted since Sunday for a third day running as tension continues to escalate along the border of Enoreteet and Nkaararo in Trans Mara West.

Hundreds of youth from the Isirian community faced off with their counterparts from Irwa Shinkishu as burnt homes and decimated farmland were witnessed.

A fight that began in the 1970s, and has persisted ever since is one that pre-dates the young men in the two communities claiming countless lives and destruction of property.

The destroyed land is evidence of the longstanding conflict and sugarcane no longer grows here.

According to sources in Trans Mara, more than 25 acres of sugarcane plantations have so far been torched since the beginning of June.

The field in the Nkaararo area serves as a safe haven for those who found themselves in the crosshairs of the two warring sides.

According to the OCPD of Transmara Jamleck Ngaruya, more than five houses were burnt down on Tuesday and fields spanning an unknown number of hectares were also destroyed.

Primary school children are some of the casualties of the fighting. They don’t know when their studies will come back to normalcy.

Security officers from the GSU had a hard time pacifying the militants who keep springing up. Many of them used the sugarcane fields as hideouts before they launched raids.

The Narok county commissioner was expected to visit Trans Mara on Tuesday evening to assess the situation as the new fighting comes just one day after a security meeting was organized in Kilgoris on Monday.
