Former national sevens team captain Collis Injera has backed Shujaa to shine in the HSBC World Sevens, which will take place between the 29th and 30th of next month in Valladolid, Spain.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Injera said he was impressed by
what he saw in the Hong Kong series and believes the team has what it takes to
shine in Spain.
“Making a comeback… was a good thing for the team; they
showed determination and they put in the hard work required for them to finish
seventh and I believe they will improve,” said Injera
Shujaa will face South Africa, Australia, and Great Britain
in Pool A, a grouping that presents both opportunity and danger based on recent
form but the former captain says with proper preparation they team has what it
takes to conquer the group.
“It is a tough pool for us but that is what the series is
made of,” explained. “The opponents also know what to expect from Kenya and it
will be exciting to what out,” added Injera
Kenya heads into the tournament on the back of a
seventh-place finish at the Hong Kong Sevens 2026, and Injera has urged them to
improve on their defence ahead of the tournament next month.
“There is need for the defence to improve ahead of the
Vallodolid leg; there were some lapses from the team and I believe the
technical bench will work out on that,” stated the former captain.
