The Senators have issued a fresh warning to governors who continue to ignore summons to appear before the Senate Public Accounts Committee over audit queries.
Lawmakers maintain that their legislative oversight mandate will not be undermined by county bosses.
They warned that their next course of action could include recommending the arrest and prosecution.
The Senators insisted that they have no hidden motive against any governor, emphasising that they are strictly executing their Constitutional duties as provided for under Article 125.
"Senators are free to ask questions the way they want. If they see that you bought curtains worth Ksh.70 million, they must ask which type of curtains. If you did a housewarming using Ksh.5 million. Appearing before Committees is not an option, even if they protest a million times," Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi noted.
"After we made a report and recommendations to the House which were adopted on March 31, 2026. We have 30 days to follow up on implementation," Moses Kajwang' , CPAC Chairperson added.
"After 30 days, we shall proceed to the next level of forwarding files to the EACC, DCI, calling DPP to commence prosecution on those governors in contempt of Parliament and also asking Police IG to produce those governors who are adamant. The law is clear, it has not changed."
