Senator Methu: Murkomen is a recipe for chaos in 2027

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, Methu claimed that the individuals who allegedly disrupted an opposition church meeting earlier in Witima, Nyeri County, were the same people involved in in

violence witnessed during the just concluded by-election in Ol Kalou.

“The goons who attacked us in church in Witima the very same people are some of those who came to Ol Kalou.

There faces are known. We have given their names to the Inspector General of Police . This is just a special school that he has outside the main National Police Service” Methu said.

The senator alleged that the group operates as a parallel militia outside the National Police Service, questioning how the Interior Ministry could guarantee the country's security while such groups allegedly exist.

“How therefore would you say that you are the Minister for interior or Minister for our own internal securityand you are running a parallel militia that is meant to deal with other people politically?”he posed.

Methu maintained that there had been no security threat in Ol Kalou to warrant violence, insisting the incidents were politically orchestrated.Additionally, he declared that the opposition remains focused on unseating President William Ruto in the next General Election.

"Once our people are determined to take William Ruto home, nothing will stop us from taking him home," he said.

On Thursday, July 16, chaos erupted at several polling stations in Ol Kalou Constituency with journalists assaulted, cameras confiscated and teargas fired as voting in the parliamentary by-election entered its final hours.

However, despite the recorded incident, the voting exercise went on with The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho, being declared the winner of theby-election after garnering 35,440 votes.

On the conduct of IEBC, Methu praised the local election officials for overseeing what he termed a credible process while criticizing the commission's handling of some pre-election events. 

The Senator questioned what he termed as selective enforcement of the Electoral Code of Conduct, arguing that the distribution of mattresses in the presence of a government-backed candidate should amount to voter bribery.
