Nyandarua Senator John Methu has opined that the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) is a formidable political party that does not only depend on the influence of its leader Rigathi Gachagua.

According to the legislator, DCP bears massive influence in Kenya’s political landscape and will only become a herculean political vehicle in the run up to the 2027 General Election.

He dispelled claims that the party is only run by Mr. Gachagua, saying that his ongoing tour in the United States is enough proof that DCP can still run without its don.

“It is also an opportunity to prove to Kenyans that our party is not a one-man show,” he said while appearing on Citizen TV’s Sunday Live.

He added that DCP is founded on well-informed principles that have maintained its prominence since its formationon May 2026.

“Our party is an institution, has structures. Everything that was meant to happen to DCP is happening. We are receiving defectors from many places, we are continuing with our one-term rallies, nothing is stopping,” he added.

He added that the party will continue endorsing Gachagua as its presidential candidate in the 2027 polls, vowing that he will not change tack on supporting the candidate chosen by the United Opposition.

“We have given him as our presidential candidate. The only thing he has been consistent about is that he hopes to be given the united opposition flag but in the unlikely event that he is not given we will give it our all,” he said.

Gachagua embarked on a 50-day diaspora tour on August 26, 2026, in a bid to rally up supporters to his party ahead of the 2027 polls.
