From the vibrant streets of Nairobi to the heart of Western Australian advocacy, Selam Tegegn is rapidly becoming one of Australia’s most influential voices in multicultural leadership, social justice, and community empowerment.

Born in Ethiopia and enriched by her Eritrean heritage, Tegegn spent her formative childhood years in Kenya before moving to Western Australia. Today, she is making major waves across the country, seamlessly blending high-impact community advocacy with clinical healthcare, mentorship, and the arts.

Tegegn currently serves as a Multicultural and Public Relations Ambassador in WA, a role where she builds authentic bridges between diverse migrant communities, grassroots organizations, and government stakeholders. Her tireless work in promoting cross-cultural understanding and supporting refugees has earned her widespread acclaim.

"When one voice lifts others, entire communities grow stronger," she states.

Tegegn’s impact has not gone unnoticed by local and national bodies. Over her career, she has been honored with several high-profile accolades, including: The Outstanding Individual Community Award (Courageous Women Multicultural Network), The Outstanding Community Leader Award (Organisation of African Communities), The Outstanding Service Award (West Australian Labor Party and the Australian Labor Government).

Her influence extends deeply into workers' rights and political advocacy. As a former Vice President and current Board Member of the Multicultural Labour Organisation, Tegegn remains a deeply active figure within the Australian Labor Party and broader union movements, championing representation and systemic equity.

Beyond her political and social advocacy, Tegegn balances a demanding portfolio as a clinical registered nurse, educator, and mentor. She frequently uses her professional background to provide career coaching, leadership development, and structural guidance to individuals navigating complex Australian systems.

In a dynamic twist that highlights her versatility, Tegegn has also stepped into the entertainment and arts sector - She was recently involved with the massively-attended Rudeboy Australian Tour, bringing her cross-cultural expertise to one of the country's most vibrant live music events to ensure inclusive community engagement.

While the tour was ostensibly an entertainment venture, Tegegn’s involvement elevated it into a masterclass in cultural diplomacy.

Her role focused on advancing culture and inclusion, ensuring that the tour did not merely consume African art, but respect and contextualize it.

Through her advocacy, the tour became a platform for diaspora empowerment.

Thus, her journey represents a vital bridge between East African cultural exports and the vast, diverse audiences of the Asia-Pacific region, proving that cultural identity is a powerful engine for global inclusion.

Whether she is speaking on her podcast, 'The Becoming of a CEO', advocating on national platforms, or mentoring the next generation of changemakers, Tegegn continues to prove herself as a transformative leader who defines eras rather than just holding titles.
