A family in Mombasa County has called for a speedy and conclusive investigation into the death of their kin who was a security guard in Bamburi.

Kurat ole Manini was attacked and killed by a machete-wielding gang. According to the family and the Maasai community living in Mombasa, more than 100 individuals invaded the land Kurat was guarding, leaving four more people nursing serious injuries.

Samuel ole Mairo, the Maasai community spokesperson, said: “Waliitwa kazi…walipoitwa kazi, wakapata ni kazi iko na mzozo wakaondoka wenyewe…lakini jamaa waliendelea kuwafuata nyuma…wakawafuata na hata aliyeuwawa ni kilomita moja mbele, kwa hivyo inamaanisha ni kama grudge.”

The family of the late Kurat says the 33-year-old was the breadwinner in his family and is demanding justice.

Family members claim efforts to have perpetrators arrested are yet to bear fruits five days after reporting the incident.

Sheila Lengala, a family member, said: “Wanasema hiyo shamba iko na court order kwa hiyo order lazima kuna majina za wenye wameripoti hiyo shamba ndio kesi ikawekwa kortini…wafuatilie hao watu one by one.”

Kisauni sub-county Commissioner Jamlick Mbuba said the matter is currently under active investigation.

Mbuba equally issued a stern warning to unscrupulous land grabbers in the region saying their days are numbered.
