Search for body of Form 3 student who drowned while taking selfie at River Chania

A family from Gwa Kumunyu Gakui village in Gatundu North, Kiambu county, is in agony after their daughter slipped and fell in River Chania while taking a selfie.

Rose Njeri, a 16-year-old Form 3 student, had gone to the scene with her friends to enjoy herself before resuming school today.

However, she slipped into the river and drowned as she attempted to take a selfie.  

Efforts to rescue her were futile and the body is yet to be recovered. 

Locals and county workers have launched a search for the body.

Residents have been urged to take safety precautions and avoid taking photos as this is not the first case of drowning in the river while taking selfies.
