All Saints Embu
rugby head coach Benson Mwendwa says they are working on their strength and
conditioning as they prepare to defend their regional rugby title.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mwendwa said they are
putting in the hard work required to make sure they arrive in the competition
in the “right state” even as they prepare to play some friendly matches before
the games begin in March.
“After the long
holidays the level of fitness went down a little bit so we are working hard to
make sure we regain the level of fitness - that includes playing some friendly matches
- for us to begin the competition on the
right note,” said Mwendwa.
Having lost
close to 10 players who cleared their high school education last year, the head
coach is optimistic they will fill the gap that has been created.
“We lost almost
10 players for the first team but I believe we have a great team that will
still be able to compete well against our opponents,” added Mwendwa.
Having lost the
national title to Kisii High School, Mwendwa believes the level of competition
is going to increase this year with many teams having strengthened their squads.
