Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has summoned AFC Leopards to his office in wake of reports the local giants are considering pulling out of Sunday’s Super Cup clash against arch-rivals Gor Mahia FC.

Leopards had intended to unveil the club’s new signings on Friday but those plans were cut short as the management scurried to allay fears that a boycott was in the offing after it broke to the media.

Club chairman Dan Mule maintained he was unaware of such claims, reiterating they will honour the fixture.

“We treat that as a rumour. The players have been in training and we haven’t witnessed any go-slow this far. Our patron, Sakaja, has invited us to his office so we’ll see what it’s all about,” Mule told Citizen Digital.

The official also downplayed the effect of their sponsorship setback in chorus with the league management who declared the top flight will ‘survive’ and that several potential partners have already come forth.

In a press briefing held on Thursday, KPL vice chairman and deputy head of the sponsorship and marketing committee Elly Kalekwa revealed they have received several offers following the withdrawal of the league’s previous partners and will ‘soon’ make a decision.

“It is a blow that our sponsor left but life moves on. Several people have knocked on our doors so we’re evaluating to see what’s best for us,” Kalekwa who is also the Sofapaka FC president said.

KPL are also searching for a broadcast partner after opting not to renew their contract with Bamba Sports.
