As Kenya joined the rest of the world in marking World Environment Day, the Safal Eye in the Wild Photography Competition launched a new environmental conservation initiative at Lenana School in Nairobi, where more than 1,000 indigenous and fruit tree seedlings were planted.

The tree-planting exercise, undertaken through a partnership between Safal MRM Foundation and Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM), led to the establishment of the Safal Eye in the Wild Photography Competition Green Zone, a dedicated space aimed at promoting environmental stewardship and climate action.

Organisers said the initiative seeks to demonstrate the role of photography and storytelling in raising awareness about conservation challenges while encouraging practical action to protect the environment.

Speaking during the event, Safal MRM Foundation Head Siprosa Rabach said the Green Zone is intended to translate environmental awareness into tangible conservation efforts. She noted that the photography competition has evolved beyond showcasing wildlife imagery to supporting broader conversations and actions around environmental sustainability.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote tree planting and environmental conservation in line with national and global climate goals.
