Chege, who was to run for the seat under the ruling Jubilee Party, made the announcement through her social media pages on Saturday, saying that she will instead focus on the umbrella Azimio La Umoja movement’s council.
“Finally the Holy Spirit has spoken, I will not be vying in any elective position in Murang'a County,” wrote the legislator.
“I will concentrate with National politics in Azimio la Umoja Council. Asanteni wa Murang'a nawapenda sana,” she added.
Chege is among the 11 members serving in the recently-formed Azimio Council that is chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
A first-term legislator, Chege has been at the forefront in drumming up former Prime Minister and Azimio flag-bearer Raila Odinga’s August presidential bid.
She also chairs Parliament’s National Assembly Health Committee and sits in the Liason Committee.
Chege has also previously chaired the Departmental Committee on Education Research and Technology.
