About 500 Rwandans and friends of Rwanda gathered at Utalii Sports Club in Nairobi on Sunday for the second Rwanda Cultural Gala and Exhibition, an event aimed at promoting the country’s cultural heritage and strengthening ties within the diaspora community.

The event brought together members of the Rwandan community for sporting competitions, cultural performances and an exhibition showcasing products and services offered by Rwandan entrepreneurs.

Participants competed in football, volleyball and igisoro, a traditional board game popular in the region, before an evening of cultural celebrations during which the best-performing teams in each category received awards.

Addressing the gathering, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Ernest Rwamucyo, commended the diaspora committee for organising the event, urging Rwandans living in Kenya to uphold their national values and preserve the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Rwamucyo emphasised the importance of maintaining a strong connection to Rwanda’s traditions and identity, even while living outside the country.

Dr. Innocent Butare, chairperson of the leadership committee of the Rwandan Community in Kenya, echoed the sentiments, calling on members of the community to protect and promote Rwanda’s positive image.

The gala also featured traditional Rwandan dances, songs and drumming, providing an opportunity for participants to celebrate their cultural identity and share their traditions with friends of Rwanda.

Rwandan entrepreneurs also used the exhibition to showcase their products and services, highlighting business opportunities within the community.

The annual gathering provides a platform for Rwandans living in Kenya to celebrate their heritage, foster unity and promote cultural exchange through sports, business and artistic expression.
