Chants from Kenyans characterised President William Ruto’s entrance at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi on Thursday as he arrived for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Dr. Ruto arrived at 11:05 am accompanied by First Lady Rachael Ruto at the fete which also marks his first public national event as Head of State.

Earlier, President Ruto’s family had arrived at the event under tight security, followed shortly by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his wife, Dorcas Rigathi.

By dawn Kenyans had started trooping into Uhuru Gardens to take part in the nation's 58th Mashujaa celebrations.

Most were clad in patriotic-themed attires of the Kenyan flag colours, while others donned traditional attires to represent their cultures.

Some 230 heroes and heroines are set to be recognised in the ceremony.
