Ruto allies renew attacks on Uhuru, accuse him of undermining Kenya Kwanza

The leaders called on Uhuru to show decorum and respect for the office of the retired president, insisting Ruto remains firmly in charge as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale delivered the message at separate political events.

Barely a day after Uhuru resurfaced publicly, his critics in the Kenya Kwanza administration renewed their attacks, accusing him of backing efforts to undermine President William Ruto’s government.

From Tharaka Nithi to Teso South and Kieni West, government allies took aim at the former president.

CS Duale weighed in at the Ura Gate cultural event in Mukothima, Tharaka Nithi, challenging the former president to acknowledge what he described as his successor’s achievements.

“Shida ya Rais Uhuru Kenyatta, ile vitu alishindwa kufanya huyu Ruto anafanya sahii,” the CS stated. 

A similar script played out in Teso South, where Wetangula led Ruto allies in accusing Kenyatta of taking sides against his successor.

“Wewe ndugu yetu ulipewa nafasi na Wakenya na ukawa Rais kwa miaka 10, sasa wewe you are the only living former President. Ofisi yako inafaa kuwa wa kuheshimiwa lakini sahii wewe ndiye mchochezi na umechukua sides and you want to pull down your successor,” Wetangula noted. 

Presidential aide Farouk Kibet also criticised the former president, calling on him to retire from politics.

“Tunataka uende retire safari moja. Wewe Uhuru Kenyatta hukuwa Teso,” he added. 

Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe accused Kenyatta of neglecting the region during his time in government while contrasting his administration with that of Ruto.

“Wewe Uhuru Kenyatta wakati ulikuwa kwa serikali, wewe hata hukuwa unatukumbuka. Barabara zote na pesa uliweka sehemu moja. Boss, wacha kutubeba ufala. Uongozi wako na wa Ruto ni kama usiku na mchana,” he remarked. 

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula also declared his support for Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“Kwa sasa sisi kama jamii ya Abaluhya tutapigia kura Rais Ruto,” Savula highlighted. 

In Kieni West, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah joined the chorus, invoking the “Sponyo” tag that has featured prominently in political exchanges between Uhuru and Kenya Kwanza leaders.

“Sisi sio masponyo lakini tutakapokuwa masponyo tutakuwa wa kusaidia wakulima na sio wa kuchochea wanasiasa,” Ichung'wah said. 

Leaders supporting President Ruto, however, insisted that the former president should respect his position as a retired head of state and refrain from what they describe as attempts to undermine his successor.
