Kamau succeeds outgoing President Becky Ngatia, whose tenure was marked by ambitious projects in education, environmental conservation, youth development and community service. Kamau described the moment as both an honor and a responsibility.
"It is with deep humility and profound gratitude that I stand before you today as the newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Nanyuki," Kamau said in his acceptance speech. "This moment is both an honour and a responsibility, one I accept with a full heart and a clear sense of purpose."
A seasoned advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Managing Partner at AK Advocates, Kamau brings more than a decade of legal and governance experience to the role.
He has served in various leadership positions across Laikipia County, including with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and local educational institutions. His vision for the coming year centers on the Rotary International theme, "Create Lasting Impact," complemented by a local theme he unveiled as "One Rotary, One Direction."
"Rotary is not about personal praise or individual recognition. Rotary is about concerted effort, the kind of collective action that achieves greatness and inspires generations to do good." Kamau told members.
Much of his address focused on the transformative power of education. Highlighting the Rotary Club of Nanyuki Scholarship Fund, he called education one of society's most reliable pathways to opportunity.
"Education is as close to a sure bet as you can get," Kamau noted. "It is a life hack that countless people have used to achieve greatness, to change their lives, and to transform their communities," he further highlighted.
He urged members to continue investing in young people and to recognize the untapped potential within their own communities. The ceremony also served as a celebration of the accomplishments of outgoing President Becky Ngatia and her board.
"Our story this year has been a beautiful picture of teamwork, growth, and changing lives," Ngatia said. President-Elect Alex, my advice to you is simple: trust your team, use the unique strengths of our members, and never lose sight of the joy that comes with serving our community," Ngatia said. "Do not be afraid to dream big.” She added
During her farewell address, Ngatia reflected on a year that included international partnerships, the donation of more than 1,200 books, the planting of thousands of trees, support for differently abled children, the renovation of classrooms at Mirera Primary School, and the growth of club membership from 28 to 38 members.
