Roller Kings introduces first ever Kenyan skating database

Roller Kings embraced data and technology to propel its skaters toward professional dreams as the competition hosted its Fourth Edition at the Two Rivers Sports District in Ruaka last weekend.

The newly branded Quarterly Speed Skating competition kicked off in style, expanding regionally and introducing a Senior Category for the first time.

The private academy sits at the heart of Nairobi's rapidly growing skating community, driving fresh momentum for the niche sport.

Skaters from neighbouring Uganda made their quiet entry into Kenya along the A104 highway to debut in the Fourth Edition.

To match the event's growing scale, administrator Stella Mbuthia introduced a suite of new initiatives designed to elevate the sport's appeal.

Most notably, the organisers established an official database to meticulously track the precise times and speeds of every racer.

“This milestone will ensure data is captured for both immediate and future use. Different organizations rely on data for sponsorship opportunities and we believe this new system will aid us in getting better support to further popularize the sport,” Stella stated.

Access to real-time stats allows athletes to analyse their performance and make instant adjustments, fuelling their pursuit of higher-level competition.

Senior coach and athlete Bernice Muthoni highlighted the long-term impact of these technological upgrades.

“This event is a complete success as for the first time a skating database will be incorporated. This has never happened before. Every athlete will know their short and long race times. This will give us invaluable data to better strengthen our sport,” Muthoni explained.

Alongside the database, Roller Kings revamped its certification system, shifting from simple participation certificates to merit-based recognition.

The new format incentivized racers to push harder to secure bolded podium placements on their credentials.

Attention now turns to next year's Rwanda Championship, where athletes will leverage these new analytical tools in their preparation.

The upcoming event will be exclusive to registered Roller Kings members as the community continues its long-term push toward Olympic speed skating.
