Armed robbers early Saturday morning night killed three security guards on Friday night at Kwa Muthoni Market in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

The security guards were attacked using crude weapons and blunt objects and the assailants took off with liquor from one of the entertainment joints.

According to reports, the security guards had attempted to block the unknown assailants from accessing the market at 3am but the robbers overpowered them.

“Walipitia kwa lango la main wakavunja, wakaingia ndani soja wa ndani wa wines and spirits ndio alipatikana wakampiga mapanga, wenzake walikuwa nje walikuja kumsaidia nao pia wakapatikana katikati,” said Kitale resident Pasta Ambrose.

Another resident, Rose Mwende, stated: “Leo unaona tumefunga kila mahali...tunahofia usalama...biashara iko chini tena power inapotea on and off, like yesterday hatukuwa na stima.”

Residents say this is not an isolated incident as armed robbers have been terrorising them for months but little has been done to restore security.

Locals are imploring the government to establish a police post within the market.

“Tarehe kama hii soja mwengine aliuwawa katika semehu ya Gatua,” Ambrose noted.

Eunice Nanjala added: “Hapa hatuna police station...ukitaka usaidizi ni lazima uende town ama Sirende...so tunataka police station hapa.”

Kiminini sub-county Police Commander Peter Onditi says security agencies have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
