Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology Main Campus situated along the Njoro- Nakuru road has been closed following student unrest.

Chaos broke out at the institution on Saturday after a section of the learners disputed the outcome of the students’ elections held on Friday.

The institution’s principal Dan Mutai said the move to send the learners home was aimed at calming tension in the school before the end of term examinations begin.

“The management has decided to send students on a break away from the institution after experiencing tension and insecurity as a result of student union election,” read a memo from the management.

Peace was disrupted on Saturday after a section of the students disregarded elections results and began protesting.

Police officers were deployed at the institution to ensure all the students leave the campus with no chaos erupting.

A program of reporting back will be communicated through the institute’s website before March 16.
