Residents in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County have decried lack of water in the area.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, locals said they are forced to trek for many kilometers in search of water.

Among the worst affected by the persistent drought are residents in Manoa area.

"We urged the county government to drill boreholes in this area to helps address this perennial issue," a resident noted.

They called on Kenya Wildlife Service to set up water points at Tsavo West National Park to help address the human-wildlife conflict in the region.

In 2022, over 100 elephants died in the Tsavo ecosystem due to the ongoing drought experienced across the country.

According to the then KWS Director General Retired Brigadier John Waweru, 120 wild animals died with elephants being the most affected.
