Opposition leader Raila Odinga now wants Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to be prosecuted over the killings of protesters during the recent anti-government protests.

Speaking on Saturday in Kakamega, Mr Odinga also demanded for the resignation of Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei.

Odinga's demands come on the backdrop of the resignation of Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome who was extensively blamed for the arbitrary arrests and abductions witnessed during the anti-government protests.

“We told Mr. Koome to leave, and he left. But it is not enough,” Odinga stated.

"That Mr. Bungei, who is in Nairobi, is even more foolish and should follow suit. However, the minister responsible for security should be prosecuted.”

Inspector General Koome's resignation comes amid mounting pressure and widespread calls for accountability in the police force.

His tenure was marked by controversies, including accusations of police brutality and mishandling of protests.

The public outcry intensified, leading to demands for reforms and greater transparency in the security sector.

Human rights organizations have reported that at least 39 people were killed during the countrywide anti-government protests.
